The 2021/22 season got under way on Saturday with grey skies and rain looming for both games in 4th grade and 6th grade one dayers, but no play was lost and we started the season in fine fashion with 2 wins. The one day league win commence next Saturday with our 3 one day teams.
4th Grade played away to Riverton/Rostrata at Prendwick reserve, won the toss and sent the opposition in to bat. Guri Singh 1/10 struck early with a snick behind without them scoring and fellow opener Sunil Dogra 1/19 picked up another caught behind to have them 2/16. The introduction of Avtar Bhangu 2/6 and Vijay Kumar 6/25 had instant results taking 2 wickets with the score on 29 and another 2 wickets reducing them to 6/38. Vijay was in fine form taking the last 4 wickets to have them all out for just 75 in 27 overs.
The run chase started well with the first wicket falling on 30, Haroon Ahmed (13) given out obstructing the field, followed by fellow opener Kanwar Deep (21) then Muhammed Saleem (17) we were 3/57. Next wicket falling at 80 we had already won the game but kept the score moving at a great rate. Vijay departed for a well made 37 and Sunil blasted 57 with 3 sixes and 5 fours. Umar Qureshi batted out the overs with a fine 36no with the Tigers finishing on 9/198. A great first up win!
6th Grade were at home to Cockburn lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Tyler Richards made a quick exit with the score on 2 which bought Salman Farsi and Mark Delamere together for a well made partnership of 60 before Della was adjudged LBW for a handy 30 runs. Callum Richards joined Salman in the middle for a match winning partnership of 80, but with Salman on 47 he too fell LBW swinging at one to reach his fifty. We were looking good at 3/142 but the quest for quick runs back fired as we lost 4 wickets for 12 including Callum on 46, bowled trying to farm the strike. Wynand (17) and Vinnie (9) added another valuable 28 runs to post a score of 7/182.
Cockburn started very cautiously and crawled to 19 before losing their first wicket from a great catch by Connor McGinty off Harsh Jansali. The introduction of spin with Asim Qureshi had instant results taking 2 wickets, leaving them struggling on 3/29. They didn’t look to chase down the score at any stage as we bowled very tight and fielded well, keeping them to just 8/121 off their 40 overs. Our bowlers sharing the wickets around, Steve Hall 1/22, Harsh 2/31, Wynand 2/18, Connor 1/31 and Asim 2/18. A fantastic first up win by the Tigers.
