Club Historian

Our Club Historian is Mark Richards.

Mark was appointed as the Club Historian in 2017/18 season as we saw the need to restore all the records of the club that dated back to 1964 season. There were boxes and boxes of scorebooks and memorabilia that had been sitting collecting dust at the club rooms and at the McLean’s residence. A club database had been started by the McLeans and was handed over to Mark to be updated by him. Mark took months and months to transfer all the data from scorebooks and scorecards and has now finally been able to put that data onto this website for everyone to look back and enjoy.

We are now able to look back on our history and appreciate the players performances for the Mighty Tigers over the years. (there are still many years of scorebooks missing from the 1960s and 1970s and Mark would appreciate it if anyone can locate them).

Mark first played for the Tigers in the 1989/90 season after Paul Keep, who worked with Mark at Parrys Warehouse, talked Mark into making a comeback to cricket after 8 years away from the game when he played at the Maddington Cricket Club for 5 years. Mark’s debut for the Tigers was in 1st grade vs, you guessed it, Maddington and Mark took 4/56 against his old team

Mark still plays for the Tigers and loves the club and everyone in it. He is now playing in his 33rd year at the club and was made a life member of the Tigers in 2009. Mark started as a bowler for the 1st grade but changed to an opening batsman/allrounder as he went down the grades in the 2000s.

Mark has currently played in 396 games, from January 2022 (the most recorded games for the club) With the bat Mark has scored 5781 runs (third highest for the Tigers) at an average of 18.12 scoring 3 centuries and 20 fifties. His highest score of 102no vs Willetton in ODG 2019/20 season. With the ball Mark has taken 432 wickets (third highest) at an average of 20.31 taking a 5 for 8 times. His best return of 6/25 came against Kwinana in 3rd grade 2003/04 season.

Mark has played in 5 Grand Finals winning one, which was his highlight so far, when he captained the 2002/03 3rd Grade team to a club flag vs Phoenix. Mark has captained in 134 games so far winning 73 games at a 54.19% win ratio.
