The new season is finally underway with a new look Cannington Tigers this year with ODG going up to 6th grade, 7th grade going up to 5th grade and 6th grade going up to 4th grade and our ODD staying the same. The first round is just a T20 format with the real season starting on the 31st Oct.
4th Grade had a big win vs Armadale at Gwynne Park. Winning the toss and bowling first we struck early and continued taking wickets, keeping Armadale to just 8/61 from their 20 overs. Guri Singh 2/16, Sunil Dogra 2/10 and Vijay Kumar 2/7 were the main destroyers with a couple of team run outs. The chase started badly with us on 4/19 but a 46 run partnership between Vijay Kumar 43 and Sunil Dogra 13, got us over the target. Muhammad Saleem 19 and Raj Singh 21 added a few more runs to the final score of 7/117. Great start to the season boys!
5th grade travelled to William Skeet oval to play the very strong Forrestdale side. We lost the toss and were sent in to bat, making just 58 runs from 18.3 overs with only Dempsey Badorek with 10 making double figures. The opposition passed the score in just 8.3 overs but not before a fine spell from Harsh Jansali with 3/14. The boys will bounce back for the 2 dayer in a fortnights time.
6th Grade were at home to Armadale, winning the toss and sending the visitors in to bat. We bowled okay in spells but could not stop their run scoring with them ending up on 6/130 from their 20 overs. Manu Pathinaike taking 3/28 with one wicket each to Stuey, Asim and Umar. The chase started off very well with 24 runs from the first 3 overs but a couple of quick wickets slowed things down and our middle order just couldn’t deliver the big boundaries we needed. We ended just 16 runs short on 3/114 with opener Richo retiring in the 19th over on 64no and Tyler Richards finishing on 12no. It was a good game to get the cobwebs out, ready for our 1st 2 day game in about 13 years.
