This weeks blast from the past #22 is Barry Jordan. Barry was a wicket keeper batsman playing mainly in our 1st grade team from 1984/85 to 2005/06. He was an explosive batsman and could turn a match in just a few overs with his aggressive style. With the gloves he was the best keeper of his era, standing up to the quicks and getting many stumpings. Barry played in 211 games for the Tigers (14th overall) 129 in First Grade. With the bat Barry made 4307 runs (6th place) at an average of 19.14 with 20 fifties and 2 centuries and a top score of 118 vs Gosnells in 2005. With the ball he actually did take 3 wickets over his career, but it was with the gloves that Barry excelled. He took a record 289 catches and 48 stumpings for the Tigers and a total of 310 catches overall. He leads this catergory by over a hundred catches. Barry also served as our President and was very active on committees and in our social activities. Barry played in 2 grand finals winning 1 in 2002/03. Barry now umpires in 1st grade of the SMCA so say G’day to him if you see him, he loves talking about the old days.
