This weeks blast from the past #21 is Mr Magic himself, John Downing. John first played for the Tigers in the 1984/85 season and since then has played in 320 games (4th highest for the club) over 34 years as a Tiger. John was an amazing swing bowler and a very handy middle order batsman. With the ball John took 386 wickets (5th highest overall) at an average of just 16.71. He took a five-for 13 times and 10 wickets in a match once, with a best of 8/53 vs East Fremantle in 96/97 season. With the bat John scored 5321 runs at an average of 18.6 with 16 Fifties and 1 Century, 108no vs Maddington in 05/06 season. John was the Paul Keep cricketer of the year in 2002/03 and was the Captain of the 1994/95 2nd grade One Day Premiers. John has also served as our President and has been on numerous committees with the Tigers. He was made a life member in 2003 and he continues to support the Tigers. John has played with all of his sons as a Tiger, Steve & Scott Hall, Brian & John L Downing and his Ex wife Donelle was made a life member in 2018. John truly is a legend at Tigerland.
