Ron Smith

This weeks blast from the past #20 is Ron Smith aka Smut. Ron played for the Tigers for 21 years from 1980/81 to 2001/02 and played in 185 games. Ron was a fantastic opening batsman who didn’t like getting out and a very handy spin bowler. With the bat Ron scored 3277 runs (17th place overall) at an average of 15.46 scoring nine fifties and 1 century. His highest score of 121no vs Thornlie in 1988/89 is where he carried his bat. He actually carried his bat 3 times for the Tigers in his career which shows how hard he was to dismiss once he was in. With the ball Ron took 321 wickets (10th place overall) at an average of 18.09 with a best of 7/29 vs Ferndale in 1988. He took a five for 9 times at the Tigers den.
